Question: How do I get off a well / cistern and onto the public water system?

Answer: First determine if public water is available to your project site.

  • If YES, a new water service branch can be purchased and the existing well must be abandoned.
  • If NO, a water main extension must be completed to bring water onto the site.

Question: Can I have a water meter installed on a property and still keep the well?

Answer: No. Once a property has been connected to the public water system all wells must be capped and sealed according to GCWW rules and regulations.

  • If you are looking for needed fire flows, those are determined by your local fire department based local fire/building code.
