GCWW is One of Seven in State to Receive Ohio EPA's First E3C Award

Apr 28, 2021

Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) is one of the first utilities in the state to receive the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Encouraging Environmental Excellence for Communities Award.

The Encouraging Environmental Excellence for Communities (E3C) program recognizes communities for implementing environmental stewardship initiatives through environmental, economic, and social programs and activities.

The GCWW Supply Division has been recognized at the Implementation Level for a variety of renewable energy projects and operational practices, including a reduction of natural gas usage, the installation of solar cells, conversion to more energy-efficient pumping, upgraded lighting to reduce energy usage, and the establishment of a team to review, suggest, and implement additional green improvements within the utility.

“These communities deserve recognition for going beyond what regulations require and setting a standard for other communities to follow,” said Ohio EPA Director Laurie A. Stevenson.

E3C awardees receive a plaque, an E3C decal, and a flag commemorating their achievements.

More information about the E3C program is available online at www.epa.ohio.gov or by calling the Ohio EPA’s Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention at 1-800-329-7518.
