Do you maintain stormwater infrastructure outside the City of Cincinnati limits?

SMU has a small amount of infrastructure on the borders of the City of Cincinnati.  If you live outside of the City of Cincinnati and are unsure about the ownership of the stormwater infrastructure under consideration you should contact your local government administration.

 

If I experience a sewage backup who should I call?

If you have experienced a sewer backup, please call MSD at (513) 352-4900 or report it online via MSD’s website.

 

Are you a separate utility from the Metropolitan Sewer District?

Yes.  SMU is an independently funded and operated utility.  While we are a division of Greater Cincinnati Water Works we are not funded by Water Works.

 

Are you part of the Hamilton County Stormwater District?

No.

 

If I have questions about SMU requirements on engineering developments who should I call?

What City Municipal Code governs SMU?

Chapter 720 of the City’s Municipal Code governs SMU.

 

What are the source(s) of SMU’s revenue?

The source of nearly all of our revenue are the stormwater ratepayers in the City of Cincinnati.

 

How is my stormwater rate determined?

It based on the type and size of the property.  See Chapter 720-57 and 720-61 of the City’s Municipal Code.

 

How do I appeal my stormwater charges?

Request to dispute charges must be received within 21 days of the bill due date.  If your dispute cannot be resolved, you have the right to a hearing before the City of Cincinnati Office of Administrative Hearings.  Request to dispute charges may be submitted in writing to the Stormwater Management Utility, per Sec 720-65.

 

Why do I have to pay a stormwater fee if I have a “non-green” surface (i.e., asphalt, concrete, gravel) on my property but no structure?    

Unless your site is “undeveloped” as defined by City Municipal Code 720-1-U and 720-53 you are not exempted from stormwater charges.

 

Where is Barrier Dam located?

Barrier Dam is located in the Queensgate/Lower Price Hill area across the street from the Metropolitan Sewer District Mill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

Who regulates septic tanks in the City of Cincinnati?

The City of Cincinnati Health Department regulates septic tanks.
