Fire HydrantCRC Sprayground

Picture days gone by when neighborhood kids would convince a kindly firefighter to open a hydrant to cool off on a hot summer day. Take that idea, make it safer and more fun and and you have the idea behind the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's spraygrounds.

CRC's modern spraygrounds are play areas designed for children with water features that spray, sprinkle and drop water. They're a great way for kids to cool off during hot summer days.

All spraygrounds FREE except McKie, Pleasant Ridge & Oakley, which requires a daily fee during regular pool hours.

To meet the ever-increasing demands on the Recreation Commission's budget, the department began converting select swimming pools to spraygrounds several years ago.

  • Because there is no standing water, lifeguards and other staff are not necessary.
  • Even if a neighborhood does not have a swimming pool, children still have an opportunity to cool off on a hot summer day, often times having more fun than at a traditional pool.
  • Using a timer and needing much less maintenance, spraygrounds can be operated for much longer hours and over a much longer season than our swimming pools.
  • By maintaining a presence in a given neighborhood, CRC can still offer limited programming and events, such as the summer lunch program.
