COVID-19 Announcement

Mar 11, 2020

Revised 5/22/2020

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission has received permission to open summer day camps and pools under new safety guidelines. Starting June 8th, CRC will offer summer day camps (Camp CRC) at 17 locations.  Of the 17 sites, 10 are ODJFS licensed sites.  In accordance with Governor DeWine’s mandated practices, we will operate at a ratio of 1:9 (1 staff to 9 participants) and maintain separate classroom environments for each age group. To ensure CRC is following these ratio guidelines, the capacity at Camps CRC has been significantly reduced. As a result, some families who preregistered their children to attend Camp CRC may no longer be guaranteed participation. Over the next few days, CRC will conduct a lottery for each location whose enrollment exceeds capacity – Dunham, Oakley, Clifton and Mt. Washington. The lottery process will be totally randomized, only accessible to CRC Main Office staff and will ensure sibling are kept together.

Stay-At-Home Order Issued For State of Ohio

Mar 22, 2020

CINCINNATI – Gov. Mike DeWine has issued a stay-at-home order for the state of Ohio to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

This order prohibits holding gatherings of any size and closes all nonessential businesses. It does not prohibit essential activities like going to the grocery store, receiving medical care, or taking a walk at the park. Residents can also return home from out of state and can leave the state.

Essential businesses – grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, etc. – may remain open but must comply with social distancing requirements.

The order goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 23. It will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 6.

Additional information about the order and what it means for residents is available on the Stay-At-Home Order Frequently Asked Questions website.

“We urge our residents not to panic, however, please take this order seriously, as COVID-19 is a real threat to our community," stated Dr. Melba R. Moore, Cincinnati Health Commissioner. "Please adhere to the social distancing of six feet from another person as well as continue to maintain proper hygiene practices.”

Dr. Moore stressed that social distancing is scientifically proven to be one of the most effective methods to slow the transmission of communicable disease, such as COVID-19. She encourages everyone to:

  • Keep a distance of at least six feet away from another person
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Refrain from touching your face
  • Use hand sanitizer
  • Covering coughs or sneezes (into the sleeve or elbow, not hands)
  • Regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces, and not shaking hands.

Revised 3/15/2020

UPDATE: In lieu of CPS closure on Monday and in the abundance of caution CRC will be closing all Recreation Centers starting Monday March 16, 2020. This closure will include all sites except for polling location. Polling locations will operate for voting purposes on on March 17, 2020 and only open during the polling location hours.

Revised 3/13/2020

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission is taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously.  In an abundance of caution, CRC is implementing our Safety Precaution Procedures in order to protect our members, staff and the community.

This is a very difficult decision and we realize that these closures will create a hardship for many families.  However, we feel that this is in the best interest of public health and are compelled by variables that have forced K-12 schools and universities to close and cancel.

Effective Tuesday 3/17/2020, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission will temporarily close all Recreation Centers.  This closure will include all sites except for polling locations.  Polling location sites will operate for voting purposes only on that day.  Recreation centers will not be open to the general public for programming.

This closure will cancel all special events, contract classes, meetings, rentals and indoor leagues at our facilities.  Currently, we anticipate reopening the Recreation Centers on Monday, April 6th, 2020.

CRC provides essential services to our most vulnerable citizens.  These include meals for our seniors at 4 of our sites and a snack program at our recreation centers.   Therefore, we are working with our service providers to implement options in order to continue this vital service.

During the 3-week closure, staff will be deep cleaning CRC facilities and supporting meal distribution efforts.

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission continues to be in communication with, and following the guidance of, the Cincinnati Health Department, and the City of Cincinnati regarding COVID-19.

CRC Impacts:

  • All CRC facilities are open: All CRC facilities, including community centers and Mt. Auburn pool, are currently open.  This could change as we become aware of new developments.
  • Most CRC programs are continuing as normal.  Special events that attract large numbers of seniors and specialized programs for people with disabilities are cancelled until further notice.
  • Some CRC enrichment programs at Cincinnati Public Schools may be canceled: If CRC has an enrichment program at a Cincinnati Public School and that school is closed, the program will be cancelled.
  • Some programs are temporarily canceled:
    • Queen City SWISH
    • Hirsch Recreation Center Saturday Fitness Boot Camp
    • Therapeutic Recreation Bowling League
    • Saturday Hoops
    • OTR Skating
  • Some CRC events will be rescheduled. Please check CRC’s social media feeds (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for updates on event and meeting cancellations.

At Our Locations

Our team is updating our cleaning procedures to ensure they meet or exceed CDC guidelines. Hard surfaces such as doors, counters, and fitness equipment will be wiped down with a high-grade disinfectant and multi-purpose cleaner every 30 minutes.   Also, if we are advised by the CDC that a person exhibiting coronavirus symptoms has entered our facilities, we will shut down the location to allow for additional cleaning and decontamination of all human contact surfaces.

We're also adjusting our services to limit person-to-person contamination. This includes increasing the availability of hand sanitizer, spray bottles with disinfectant, asking members to clean up after using equipment, and asking ill members/participants to return home.

We are establishing sanitation stations at all our facilities (recreation centers, golf courses and all maintenance shops).  These sanitation stations will be equipped with hand sanitizers, Kleenex and corona virus informational handouts.

You Can Help

You can help by partnering with us to stop the spread of coronavirus, the flu, and other human contact illnesses by...

  • CONTAIN:  Stay home when you are sick and limit touching your face.

Thank you for helping us create a healthy environment where our friends can reach goals, make friends, and find a place to belong.
