Auto Auctions

The public is invited to an auction sale of unclaimed automobiles, which have been in the Cincinnati Police Department's possession for more than 45 days. Auction participants must be at least 18 years old.

  • Location: Cincinnati Police Impound Lot, 3425 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati, OH  45225
  • When: First and third Saturday of the month.
  • Viewing: The Friday before the auction from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Auction: Auction begins at 09:30 a.m.
  • Payment: Cash or credit card Payments are due immediately after the auction.  Credit cards must not require the use of a PIN, and acceptable cards are VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express

**To Get Your Property Out of the Property Room

For the foreseeable future, please follow these instructions to retrieve your property from the Cincinnati Police Property Room:

  • Call (513) 352-6480 to schedule an appointment to retrieve property.
  • Appointments can be made Monday through Friday 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

 

Cincinnati Police Officers book items into one of three categories:

Found Property

There may or may not be a known owner for Found Property.   If the owner is unknown, it may be required that ownership is proven to obtain items.   Information such as make, model, serial number, PIN number or unique markings may be helpful to identify property.  Found Property is considered unclaimed after 90 days and will be disposed of.   Individuals, who find property and turn it in to the police, may be able to claim it after this period.   Property finders must make a request for the property prior to the 90th day. 

Personal Property

Items taken at the scene, or upon arrest, for safekeeping are booked as personal property and are available for release. Included in this, are items that the Hamilton County Jail refuses to accept (bookbags, suitcases and shoes). Property not claimed after 90 days will be disposed of. 

Evidence

Items booked as evidence can only be released with the permission of the officer assigned to the case, or by a written order from the court.   The court does not automatically order the release of property upon finalization of the case.   Citizens should consult with their attorney or prosecutor of the case in order to obtain a judge’s signed court order.  As with other property, items will be disposed of after 90 days of issuance of a court order or notification by an officer.   Stolen property that has been recovered is considered evidence.  

Citizens claiming property

  • Citizens have 90 days after notification to retrieve property.  Afterwards, items will be disposed.
  • A photo ID is required to obtain items.
  • When picking up items for another person, a written, notarized statement or Power of Attorney must be presented before items will be released.
  • A letter to Chief Theresa Theetge must be written, and an approval letter from the Chief must be presented to retrieve your firearm back.    A court order signed by a judge will also suffice.
