City Adds First 3 Electric Vehicles to Municipal Fleet

Jul 16, 2019

CINCINNATI – The City of Cincinnati has taken its commitment to renewable energy to the streets quite literally by introducing three new electrical vehicles to its municipal fleet.

The new vehicles include two 2019 Nissan Leafs and a 2019 Chevrolet Bolt. The Leafs will be used as transportation for the Litter Enforcement personnel as they investigate litter complaints throughout Cincinnati. Meanwhile the Bolt will be used as a pool vehicle for Department of Public Services staff.

Public Services staff recently took part in electric vehicle, or EV, training. The training consisted of a general overview of the key differences between gas vehicles and electric vehicles, tutorials about EV safety features, and the environmental benefits of using EVs.

These electrical vehicles are the first step in the City of Cincinnati’s commitment to be “Ready for 100.” In December, City Council passed resolution No. 60-2018, calling for the City to run on 100% renewable energy by 2035 and transition the City’s Fleet to be 100% electric by 2035. Additionally, the Green Cincinnati Plan calls for a reduction in fuel consumption by the City Fleet. Further, the electrification of the City fleet is listed as a key action the City will undertake as part of Bloomberg Philanthropies American Cities Climate Challenge.

You can find out more information about these initiatives, as well as the City's Electric Vehicle Program, on the website for the City’s Office of Environment and Sustainability website.
