Resources for Employers

Are you an employer in the green workforce? Are you having trouble attracting and retaining skilled workers? You are not alone. With unemployment still near historic lows, it is a job seekers’ market so competition for workers is at an all-time high. According to the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber’s State of the Region, there are approximately 2 jobs for every 1 person in the Greater Cincinnati Region.   

 

In the green workforce, Job Quality is an important theme. Job seekers are looking for good quality jobs, and employers have opportunities to become employers of choice. For most employers, higher pay may be the first solution when it comes to increasing job quality, and while pay is important, there are other principles to consider. There are resources to inform you about what makes a good quality job. Please review below!  

Recruitment and Hiring and Skills and Career Advancement are two of the eight Good Job Principles. The resources below can assist your organization to build your talent pipeline, improve recruitment, and provide skills and advancement opportunities to support retention of your green workforce.  

  • ApprenticeOhio – Any employer can set up an apprenticeship program to build their talent pipeline towards a skilled workforce. This state entity registers and assists employers in starting apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships.  
  • Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) offers a toolkit and free technical assistance to assist employers, educational institutions, and other workforce stakeholders interested in developing, expanding, or otherwise supporting Registered Apprenticeships in clean energy. 

  • Green Workforce Connect has a resource hub for the Green Energy Workforce. Resources are available for job seekers, employers, education and training providers, community-based organizations, and contractors. These include an outreach and engagement toolkit for Weatherization Workforce Development, recruiting strategies, and more. 

  • TechCred - Upskill your workforce with this state-funded reimbursement resource for credentialed training. The comprehensive excel spreadsheet of credentials includes green skill trainings such as: NCCER Core, NCCER Electrical, NCCER Solar Photovoltaics, NCCER HVAC, NABCEP Advanced PV + PV Associate, NABCEP Photovoltaic Installation Professional (PVIP), Green Energy Expert, and more. 

  • Ohio Means Jobs Cincinnati – Hamilton County is our County’s one-stop jobs center. Resources include employer services such as job fairs, on-the-job training, business workshops and more.  

  • Connect with Education and Training providers in the partners to share your green jobs openings and develop talent pipelines
