Buildings and Energy

Energy powers almost everything we do as a community, but it also contributes an enormous burden in the form of carbon emissions and other pollutants that create negative health outcomes for residents and increasingly disrupt our climate.

Energy efficient technologies can result in buildings that contribute to a healthy, equitable, and resilient city. Renewable energy can power our buildings with locally produced clean energy without the harmful side effects of fossil fuels. Accelerating this transformation locally offers not only important environmental and health benefits, but also helps grow our region’s economy and positions Cincinnati as a leader in a rapidly growing industry.

Green Cincinnati Plan Goals:

  • Reduce building emissions 30% from 2021 levels by 2030.
  • Electrify 20,000 households by 2030.
  • Reduce the number of households experiencing energy poverty 10% from 2022 levels by 2028.
  • Obtain 40% of electricity load from clean energy sources by 2030.
