City Innovations Earn Cincinnati Spot on 2017 Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 List
Oct 16, 2017
CINCINNATI – The City of Cincinnati learned is one of only three city governments to earn a place on the 2017 Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 list of top analytics innovators in the United States.
The Drexel LeBow Analytics 50 – founded by Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business – is a national recognition of analytics innovation honoring 50 organizations using analytics to solve unique business challenges.
Analytics 50 honorees for 2017 include organizations from a broad cross section of industries. They range from agriculture and health care to sports and food services.
Cincinnati joined the City of Pittsburgh and the Seattle Police Department as the only municipal governments to make the list this year. Cincinnati received high praise for its continued use of data analytics to improve various municipal services and customer services while also enhancing transparency and community engagement.
Most notable among Cincinnati’s feats is the launch of the CincyInsights dashboard portal.
“The City of Cincinnati aims to become the best managed local government in the nation. Achieving this means using data and performance management to enhance services and become more efficient, while making government more useful, relevant and valuable to our residents,” said City Manager Harry Black. “This is only possible due to the strong executive level direction and support provided by Mayor Cranley and the City Council,” he continued.
Mr. Black attended the formal awards and recognition ceremony on Nov. 2, 2017 at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business in Philadelphia.

Other honorees for 2017 include Southwest Airlines, Pabst Brewing Co., Starbucks, The North Face, the Arizona Diamondbacks, AccuWeather, American Express, San Francisco International Airport, and Vanguard.
“We’re proud to recognize distinction in analytics among this diverse group of impressive organizations,” said Paul Jensen, interim dean for Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business. “The Analytics 50 is a powerful way to honor business solutions and to strengthen the intersection of academia and industry. We congratulate the honorees and look forward to celebrating their achievements at this year’s awards ceremony."
Winning organizations were selected by a panel of researchers and practitioners who judged nominations based on the complexity of the business challenge, the analytics solution implemented, and the solution’s business impact on the organization.

‘Insights’ into Cincy Analytics Innovations
The City developed and launched CincyInsights earlier this year. This interactive, real-time portal is (at present) home to 47 unique dashboards designed to educate and inform residents about various aspects of City operations.
CincyInsights aggregates data in Cincinnati’s open data portal and reconfigures into heat maps and charts designed to be engaging, quickly relatable and more easily understood.
CincyInsights examines five priority areas: safer streets, growing economy, thriving & healthy neighborhoods, innovative government, and fiscal sustainability & strategic investment.
All of this is possible due to the successful collaboration that takes place between the City’s Chief GIS, Performance Management and Data executives.
