Age Friendly Cincy
In February 2018, the City of Cincinnati received membership into the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Livable Communities Initiative that supports neighborhoods, towns, cities and rural areas to be great places for people of all ages. As required for membership, the City of Cincinnati completed a community assessment and action plan that influences the quality of life of older adults based on the World Health Organization's Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities eight domains of livability. These domains include outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information, and community and health services.
Age Friendly Cincy completed a community assessment used to develop a three-year action plan that influences the quality of life of older residents. The community assessment includes demographic analyses, stakeholder interviews, a telephone survey and focus groups with Cincinnati residents ages 50 and older, a review of best practices for age-friendly communities, and advisory meetings with community leaders, representatives from city departments and professionals from the aging network.
An Age Friendly Cincy Advisory Council was formed to review the research findings and guide the three-year action plan. The council includes community leaders, representatives from city departments and professionals from the aging network.
The Age Friendly Cincy Advisory council continues to meet quarterly working together to prioritize and implement elements of the action plan. If you are interested in joining Age Friendly Cincy, please contact Tonia Smith
The Age Friendly Cincinnati research, analysis, and plan writing was made possible through grants awarded by our partners at AARP Ohio and The HealthPath Foundation.
