DETER Registration Blocks

A DETER Registration Block can be imposed by the State of Ohio for unpaid parking tickets pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 4521.10.  It typically occurs with three or more unpaid parking tickets attached to a single license plate number.  It can also occur with a single unpaid handicap parking violation.  Either way, it prevents the blocked person from registering their vehicle or obtaining new license plate tags.

If you wish to request a DETER Registration Block Clearance:

Please email DETER@cincinnati-oh.gov.

Our staff will research your unpaid parking tickets and calculate your total amount due.  You can also request a DETER Hearing if your vehicle was stolen or used without your permission.  Upon resolution of the outstanding balance, our staff will send you a DETER registration block clearance form, and fax that information to the BMV to remove the block.

DETER Registration Blocks often take time to resolve.  We encourage you to email DETER@cincinnati-oh.gov before going to the BMV.  Our Front Desk is open from 9AM to 2PM on regular work days.
