Emily Smart Woerner
Emily Smart Woerner was appointed City Solicitor on September 18, 2022. She has been serving the City of Cincinnati in the City Solicitor’s Office full-time since June 2012, after having interned with the City during her law school summers. Emily’s experience with the Law Department has included work as a municipal prosecutor, service in the General Counsel division, and as a civil litigator. Emily’s leadership and supervisory responsibilities began with service as Chief of Litigation in 2018 and later as Deputy City Solicitor. Emily’s professional life has been dedicated to public service. From 2016 to 2018, in addition to her work as a civil litigator for the City, Emily served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio assigned to prosecute federal gun possession crimes. For the past decade, Emily has volunteered as a coach for the Xavier University Mock Trial team where she mentors undergraduate students in trial advocacy. Emily earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law where she also gained practical legal experience working for the Illinois Innocence Project and in the Family Advocacy Clinic. Emily is also a proud Buckeye, having received a Bachelor of Arts with honors and distinction from the Ohio State University. Emily is licensed to practice law in Ohio, and lives with her husband and two children in Pleasant Ridge.
