The City of Cincinnati’s Police Department is seeking to fill the position of Storekeeper. Under general direction, this employee works in a storeroom ordering supplies to replenish stock to pre-determined levels. Employee posts and files both requisitions and receiving tickets in order to keep an accurate record of the inventory, helps to start and check new stock, and issues supplies to users. May be responsible for overall coordination of operations. Performs related duties as required.

No faxed applications or applications returned through the interdepartmental mail system will be accepted. Civil Service Rules provide that ties on final exam scores are broken based on seniority. If more than one competitor was appointed on the same day, the ties will be broken by the time stamp on the application.
WHO MAY COMPETE ON THE EXAM: All classified, permanent employees with the City of Cincinnati who meet the qualifications listed below as of Tuesday, January 29, 2013. All required experience must be with the City of Cincinnati and must have occurred within the last (5) five years. IT IS THE POLICY OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION THAT TEMPORARY TRANSFER AND/OR PROMOTION TIME WILL NOT BE COUNTED FOR EXAMINATION ELIGIBILITY PURPOSES (CIVIL SERVICE RULE 10, SECTION 2 – 8/3/89).
REQUIRED SERVICE RATING: No employee who has received “does not meet expectations” on two of the last three performance evaluations may compete. (OAC 123:1-23-06)
QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must have one year of experience with the City of Cincinnati as a Laborer, Utility Laborer, Cleaner, Sanitation Helper, Parking Attendant, Clerk or Clerk Typist. Requires a valid Ohio Driver's License; some positions may require a valid Ohio Commercial Class B Driver's License – must be obtained within the probationary period if required for the position. You are required to show your valid Driver's License or state ID card to the Human Resources Department staff NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS.
This is a sensitive classification under provisions of Rule V, Section 7C, and applicants must have satisfactory police record check.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES WHICH MAY BE SAMPLED/MEASURED/INCLUDED IN THIS EXAM:
Knowledge of:
Basic warehouse/storeroom operation, mathematics, requisition procedures, inventory control, methods, and industrial safety practices.
Storekeeping terminology.
Safety policies and procedures, e.g., Employee Safety Manual and applicable agency requirements.
Cincinnati Financial System and Extended Purchasing System procedures and computer systems.
Skill to:
Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty.
Effectively utilize a computer.
Lift and carry 50 pound bags or packages.
Ability to:
Organize and maintain files, expedite, and handle parts and equipment.
Compute simple statistics (i.e., averages, percent) without aid of a calculator.
Convert units of weights and measurement.
Read written instructions and departmental forms and to check forms (requisitions and receipts) for correctness of information.
Communicate in an effective manner (written or oral) and to maintain good working relationships with others.
Work with minimum supervision.
STUDY GUIDE: The majority of the exam questions will be taken from the Storekeeper Study Guide which can be found on the City’s intranet website at http://citymatters.rcc.org/hr/index.cfm?template=StudyGuides.
SUBJECTS AND WEIGHTS OF TEST SECTIONS: The exam will consist of a written examination. The examination will be worth 100% of the grade. The passing score will be determined after the examination by the Civil Service Examiner together with the Secretary. Determination of the passing score will be based on the job analysis, analysis of examination results, consultation with subject matter experts or other professional methods. Seniority credit will be added to passing scores.
