Household Sewage
There are approximately 500 homes in Cincinnati that are not connected to the Metropolitan Sewer District's sanitary sewer system. Wastewater from these homes is treated via an individual household sewage treatment system (HSTS).
These systems can either be septic tanks or aerobic treatment units with soil absorption or discharging components. The Technical Environmental Services office licenses and inspects these systems each year to check for compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code 3701-29 and Board of Health regulation 00077.
Registered environmental health specialists (REHS) educate homeowners on the proper care and maintenance of their systems.
