CINCINNATI, OH – The updated vaccine to help fight COVID-19 is now widely available in Cincinnati and throughout the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends this vaccine for everyone 6 months and older.

“While hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19 are far down compared to past years, immunity fades over time and the virus that causes COVID-19 is very good at changing itself to evade previous immunity,” said Grant Mussman, M.D., MHSA, Cincinnati Health Department Commissioner. “The updated vaccines were designed to target the new variants to restore and enhance protection.”

People are encouraged to check with their physician about their individual situation regarding timing and type of vaccine they should receive.

People can visit vaccines.gov to check COVID-19 vaccines availability near where they live.  The best availability is at local pharmacies. CHD is also offering COVID-19 vaccines to adults, but supply is very limited and insurance conditions may apply. For additional information about availability at a CHD clinic or to schedule an appointment, call 513-357-7320.

The Cincinnati Health Department (CHD) reminds people that if they have COVID-19, they can spread the virus to others. There are precautions they can take to prevent spreading it to others: isolation, masking, and avoiding contact with people who are at high risk of getting very sick. The CDC provides a tool to help calculate isolation and exposure measures, which can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/isolation.html.

For more information about COVID-19, available vaccines and treatments, visit the CHD website, the Ohio Department of Health website or the CDC website.
