Fire Prevention Through Education
Every day, Americans experience the horror of fire. But most people don't understand fire. Only when we know the true nature of fire can we prepare ourselves and our families.
Each year more than 4,000 Americans die and approximately 20,000 are injured in fires, many of which could be prevented.
Education of the general public has enabled the Fire Department to contribute to making Cincinnati a more livable city. The Department and its Fire Prevention Division focused on those most at risk, to assure their safety, and at the same time, advocated life saving messages to the general public.
Education of children is accomplished in many ways. The most important and successful are the programs presented in schools, fire drills, Fire Prevention Week, and lectures given by the Division and fire company personnel, on and off duty.
The Department also focuses on the senior citizens, imparting vital information to them where they work, live and meet.
On June 4, 2014, Cincinnati City Council passed Ordinance 0116-2014 which increased fire permit fees in the City of Cincinnati from $100 to $125. The fee increases will allow the Cincinnati Fire Department to be reimbursed for costs associated with issuing such permits.
