Edwards Road and Observatory Ave Rehab Under Way

Apr 25, 2024

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Department of Transportation & Engineering (DOTE) has begun a street rehabilitation and safety update project on Edwards Road and Observatory Avenue in Hyde Park.

The project extends from Edward's intersection with Madison Road to Observatory Avenue and its intersection with Linwood Avenue to the east.

Please see the map below.

During the current phase, crews are making full-depth base repairs in the roadbed along Edwards and Observatory in addition to removing abandoned streetcar ties.

During the next phases in the rehab process, crews will grind off the surface layer of asphalt, adjust utility castings, pour concrete for repairs to curbs and to fortify bus stop locations, as well as replace or upgrade curb ramps to meet accessibility standards required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Crews will apply paint striping to re-designate lane lines and crosswalks at intersections after the new asphalt surface layer is laid in the fall.

The project is scheduled to wrap up by Oct. 31.

Through traffic will be allowed during most of the project. However, motorists should expect ongoing lane closures in work zones and a daytime-only full closure of Edwards between Observatory and Erie in June or July. Updates on the exact timeline and expected detour will be shared closer to the anticipated date.

The contractor is Cincinnati-based Adleta Construction. The $3.7 million project is funded with a combination of city capital and grants from the State of Ohio.
