In April 2023 the Department of Transportation & Engineering (DOTE) installed a traffic calming lane design along Glenway Avenue between Beech Avenue and Shirley Place in West Price Hill.

This new traffic pattern addresses long-term speeding issues identified by neighborhood residents, the West Price Hill Community Council, and businesses in the area.

In August the city made modifications to the initial lane design based on community feedback and traffic data.

These changes will remain in place through August and September to allow all users the opportunity to assess the modified design.

The city will collect new traffic data, review community feedback, and engage with the West Price Hill Community Council to make any necessary changes before final paving and striping occur in October.

Get other details about the project:

April 2023: An initial traffic calming lane design was installed between Beech Ave and Shirley Pl. The initial design included one travel lane in each direction, a two-way left-turn lane, and full-time, on-street parking in the curb lane on one side of the road depending on the location.

August 2023: Based on community feedback, a modified lane design was installed between Overlook Ave and Ferguson Rd. The modified design includes two travel lanes outbound, a center turn lane, and one travel lane inbound. This modified design will allow for the wider travel lanes preferred by the community, while reducing delay for outbound motorists.

Top Concern: Speeding

Speeding is consistently identified as the No. 1 safety issue on this two-mile stretch of Glenway. More than 700 crashes, including 15 pedestrian-related, have occurred there since 2020. The same street design being evaluated on Glenway has been used to successfully reduce speeding and calm traffic in other neighborhoods in Cincinnati.

Reducing traffic speeds by just 5 miles per hour has a dramatic effect on the outcome of crashes with vulnerable users, often reducing the severity of the impact.

Lane Changes
  • April: Initial traffic calming lane design was installed
  • May - July: Community feedback period on initial design
  • August: Modified lane design installed
  • August - September: Community feedback period for modified design
  • October: Decision on whether to keep new lane design

Street Rehabilitation
  • May: Street rehabilitation begins with full-depth base repairs
  • June - October: Street Rehab Continues
    • Milling off existing pavement surface
    • Initial asphalt course added
    • Concrete curb and ramp repairs
    • Casting adjustments for utilities
    • Final asphalt surface added
    • Lane line striping

August 2023: In response to community feedback, we have modified the lane striping on Glenway between Overlook Ave and Ferguson Rd to add an additional lane northbound.

The goal of this modification is to allow for the wider travel lanes preferred by the community for the Guerley intersection, while reducing delay for outbound motorists.
