CINCINNATI – Friends and family surrounded Mayor John Cranley and nine members of the new Cincinnati City Council Tuesday as they were sworn in at Cincinnati Music Hall.

The ceremony inside the packed grand ballroom in the iconic Over-the-Rhine facility included the Oath of Office whereby each elected representative formally accepted the responsibility to create policy and direct the City of Cincinnati Administration for the next four years.

Cranley was reelected to a second term as Cincinnati’s 69th mayor during the November 2017 election.

Cincinnati’s newest City Council consists of six familiar faces who also earned reelection this past November. They are (alphabetically) David Mann, Amy Murray, Chris Seelbach, P.G. Sittenfeld and Wendell Young. New to this Council term are (alphabetically) Tamaya Dennard, Greg Landsman and Jeff Pastor.

In addition to being sworn onto Council, Council Members Smitherman and Dennard took the Oath of Office to accept the roles of Vice Mayor and President Pro Tem, respectively.

As one of the first acts of the new term, Council voted on the chair positions for each of the various City Council committees which will begin starting the week of Monday, Jan. 8.

• Budget and Finance Committee – Council Member Mann
• Economic Growth and Zoning Committee – Council Member Murray
• Education, Innovation and Growth Committee – Council Member Sittenfeld
• Equity, Inclusion. Youth and the Arts Committee – Council Member Dennard
• Law and Public Safety Committee – Vice Mayor Smitherman
• Major Projects and Smart Government – Council Member Landsman
• Neighborhoods Committee – Council Member Pastor

The Mayor and Council Members have terms that will run until January 2022. An election for all 10 positions will take place in November 2021.
