Pride Flag Raised at City Hall in Observance of Pride Month
Jun 01, 2023
This morning, City officials raised the Pride flag on the flagpole at City Hall in observance of Pride Month and as a symbol of support of LGBTQIA+ Cincinnatians and the global Pride cause.
“Pride month is a celebration of love, progress, courage, and community. And yet, we know the fight continues for equality and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community. I want the world to know Cincinnati is a safe and welcoming place for all,” said City Manager Sheryl Long.
“My office is proud to be working with the City Manager’s office to raise the Pride flag and the Transgender pride flag,” said Councilmember Reggie Harris. “As we continue to face legislative attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community from the Statehouse and nationally, it is critical that we as a City loudly proclaim that we are a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming place to live.”
The flag-raising event this morning included remarks from several speakers:
- City Manager Sheryl Long
- Councilmember Reggie Harris
- Jen Scott, Equality Ohio
- Councilmember Mark Jeffreys
- Lisa Johnson, Cincinnati Police Department
- Dustin Lewis, Cincinnati Pride
The flag will fly on the flagpole throughout Pride Month (June).
