CAGIS Nationally Recognized at Technology Awards Program
Jul 13, 2017
CINCINNATI – The City of Cincinnati pleased to announce that the Cincinnati Area Geographic Information System, or CAGIS, has received national recognition in two categories from the Public Technology Institute (PTI), a leading resource for technology executives in local government across the United States.
CAGIS was honored in the “GIS” and “Innovation” categories for its work on the development of various customer service apps.
- Innovation – The "Fix it Cincy!" Customer Service app
- GIS - The Department of Public Services Code Enforcement website
Additional details about the customer service platforms are posted below.
Though CAGIS is the recipient, the development of these new tools is the byproduct of a “truly cross-departmental team efforts,” said City Manager Harry Black in a memo to the Mayor and City Council.
“These applications showcase the commitment of CAGIS and the City of Cincinnati’s various departments to developing fresh and innovative solutions for making it easier for residents to interact with their city,” wrote City Manager Black.
“I want to commend all of the members of the cross-departmental teams who worked on these projects including CAGIS, Enterprise Technology Solutions, Buildings & Inspections, the City Manager’s Office, the Office of Performance & Data Analytics, and the Department of Public Services.
“Thanks to the ongoing support of the Mayor and City Council this latest recognition is an indication of the national notice being given to our efforts to use data and technology to improve efficiency and customer service,” he added. “We strive to make Cincinnati the best managed local government in the nation.”
These awards are part of PTI’s annual Technology Solutions Awards program. This nationally recognized competition celebrates the accomplishments of state and local governments that demonstrate how they use technology to solve problems, provide enhanced services to the public, and improve internal operations.
Award winners will be presented with 2017 Technology Solutions Awards during the PTI CIO and Leadership Summit, September 30 - October 1, 2017 in Austin, Texas.
About the Award-Winning Apps
The “Fix it Cincy!” customer service app allows Cincinnati residents and visitors alike to make customer service requests (CSR) to various City departments including Transportation & Engineering, Buildings & Inspections, Health, and Public Services. Users can directly report things like litter, potholes, health code violations and more to the respective department. Departments send a direct notification to the person who submitted the CSR once the service is completed.
The Code Enforcement application is a web-based tool to help Cincinnatians research and report building and property issues to the City of Cincinnati. Users are able to research a property for purchase, figure out the demolition progress on a property, or report problem properties. It also serves as a one-stop shop for individuals and communities trying to address blight and problem properties in their neighborhoods.
More information is available on the Cincy Code Enforcement website.
