Ribbon cutting at Walnut Woods of Evanston

Since 2016, a highly successful collaboration that has grown to include Walnut Hills High School, the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati, Cincinnati Parks and the Evanston Community Council has worked to transform a neglected 10-acre property between Victory Parkway and Sulsar Street in Evanston into a healthy urban greenspace, outdoor classroom, and publicly accessible park. To date, more than 5,600 volunteer hours and $40,000 in grant funds have gone into the restoration effort, which has included cleaning up trash, removing invasive species, planting over 2,000 native trees and shrubs, creating a mulched trail system, and installing signage and trail markers. The project is also the flagship site for the Civic Garden Center’s Treeforestation habitat restoration program. In December 2021, the Cincinnati Board of Park Commissioners voted to name the site Walnut Woods of Evanston.

On October 22, 2022, there was an official grand opening at the park. The ceremony commenced with a tree planting and ended with celebration. We are excited for park goers to visit this space.
