Volunteer Highlight featuring Arthur Schmid

  • Apr 27, 2022

Arthur Schmid is a recurring volunteer this year at Krohn Conservatory’s Butterflies of the Nile exhibit. He can often be found guarding the inner door of the butterfly exhibit. Aurthurs favorite spot to volunteer is the under the Podacarpus trees, (the large tropical conifers that arch over the entrance doors). “It’s pretty cool to spend extended time in the exhibit” Authur mentions, while opening the door and welcoming the next group of visitors. “You can look up into the tree and see all the different butterflies hidden in the branches.” Aurthur remembers coming to the butterfly show as a Kid and immediately thought of Krohn Conservatory when looking for opportunities to volunteer.

UC Volunteers Give Back!

Through the pandemic, 648 students have served more than 4,000 hours in Cincinnati Parks! From greeting visitors at the Butterfly Show to hacking away at honeysuckle, mulching our parks and supporting community events, Bearcats have contributed a value of more than $112,000 to Cincinnati Parks. Beyond this dollar value impact, the support and energy that our students volunteers bring to our staff is invaluable!

This partnership enhances the service we provide for the city. It also nurtures stewardship and a connection to nature and potential career paths for these students.

University of Cincinnati - Center for Community Engagement connects the campus to our community of Cincinnati through Service. Students participate in semester-long volunteer opportunities, dive in to a one-time volunteer need, or find ongoing volunteer opportunities in the community all year long!
