Tips and Tricks for Keeping Those Roses Fresh

  • Feb 14, 2020

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and so is the heavenly scent of roses! If you give or receive roses this season, you’ll want to do your best to ensure they last as long as your undying love. Check out some of our tips and tricks from some of Krohn’s horticulturists to learn how to extend the life of your cut flowers.

Step 1: Ensure your vase is clean and free of dirt.

Step 2: Fill your vase with lukewarm water.

Step 3: Ask a florist/professional to cut the stems. If you feel comfortable cutting them yourself, use a sharp knife or scissors and cut the stems at a 45-degree angle. Immerse the flowers immediately upon cutting.

Step 4: Refrigerate your flowers when you are away to help extend their life.

Step 5: Regularly change the flower water. Fresh is best!

Step 6: Remove leaves or wilting buds.

Step 7: Add flower preservative to the vase water (provided to you when you buy the flowers).
