Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Program Comes to Cincinnati Parks

  • Apr 6, 2022

Looking to take your volunteerism to the next level? Cincinnati Parks is proud to announce an exciting new volunteer opportunity for you! In conjunction with the Ohio State University’s Extension office, the Cincinnati Park Board will offer training this fall in the Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program (OCVN). The mission of this program is to promote awareness and stewardship of Ohio’s environment and natural resources through science-based education and community service.

Participants will enjoy a 40-hour education course in topics ranging from watersheds and geology to forest biomes and wildlife. Classes will be a combination of on-line work with OSU and field-training excursions, with professionals in their fields, in various Cincinnati Parks. Opportunities abound throughout the park system and beyond to put these new skills to work!

The OCVN education course helps participants gain practical knowledge of Ohio’s diverse ecology, environmental education and interpretation techniques, and the skill set needed to participate in education, outreach, community science, program support and stewardship activities.
