Lytle Park Grand Re-Opening

  • Apr 26, 2024

Today was the grand re-opening of Lytle Park. Residing where Fort Washington was built in 1789, Lytle Park sits in one of the oldest parts of the city and became a park in 1907. In 1967, it was rebuilt above interstate I-71 as part of the Fort Washington Way project, representing one of the first use of air rights over an expressway in the United States.

This project represents the latest iteration of the park, originally necessary due to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Lytle Tunnel ventilation project completed in 2017. The wonderfully reinvigorated urban park includes a new hardscape with several plazas and brick walkways, a decorative fountain, a running track, new landscaping, lighting, bocce ball court, playground, and benches.

This beautifully renovated 2.8-acre green space is made possible thanks to the generosity of Western & Southern Financial Group, who in addition to donating $3.2 million to the project has committed annual funding to support ongoing park maintenance. An additional $1.1 million in funds were contributed from ODOT as a result of the 2017 tunnel project.

We can't wait for the public to visit this park and enjoy all that it has to offer.
