Cincinnati Parks & MadTree Brewing Planting Trees With A Purpose

On November 1, 2021, MadTree Brewing, in collaboration with Groundwork ORV and Cincinnati Parks Foundation/Cincinnati Parks, planted over 40 mature trees at Inwood Park, a recently designated top local Cincinnati Park.  Work centered around the newly installed playground that was designed to be universally accessible for children of all ages. These trees will provide much needed shade in the summer heat and will add canopy coverage in one of our urban neighborhoods. Invasive species removal also took place to open up sightlines along paths creating safer and more open trails.

“We are excited to be partnering again with Cincinnati Parks and Cincinnati Parks Foundation to get outside and get our hands dirty at Inwood Park on November 1,” said Rhiannon Hoeweler, Director of Strategic Impact at MadTree. Inwood was recently designated by Lonely Planet as one of the top 9 parks in all of Cincinnati. Located on Vine Street, Inwood Park has a storied history in Cincinnati, including being an old rock quarry and is just one mile north of MadTree’s new location, Alcove bar + restaurant, set to open in the winter of 2022.

“Part of what drew us to work in this particular Cincinnati Park was its proximity to our new location, but also the way the Cincinnati Parks/Cincinnati Parks Foundation team worked with the community and PNC Bank to to design and build-out of the new PNC Grow Up Great Playground,” said Hoeweler. “We love that the neighborhood, children too, were invited and included to make sure the playground was inclusive from start to finish.”

The playground features two “tot” sized houses with elements for small children, musical instruments, and colorful ground-level panels. There are also a variety of swing types including a fully accessible ADA swing, a spinner that accommodates mobility devices, and a zip line, the first of its kind from the Park Board.

They are helping to plant trees and building upon the great momentum we have going at Inwood Park, enhancing this space for our residents and park users to enjoy. We are beyond grateful for their many efforts on our behalf including the annual ReLeaf tree planting program and look forward to continuing this collaboration for many years to come.”

The Park Board’s Urban Forestry division works diligently to bring each residential neighborhood up to 40% tree canopy coverage to help improve the impacts of air pollution, urban heat island effect, residential energy demands, and storm water management.
