    About the Board of Housing Appeals

    The Board of Housing Appeals conducts public hearings and decides appeals from notices of violation, decisions, or orders issued by the Department of Buildings and Inspections, Division of Property Maintenance and Code Enforcement, and the Community Reinvestment Area program.

    The Board of Housing Appeals resolves controversies arising out of the property maintenance and zoning code enforcement processes.

    Note: Orders to vacate a building, or condemnation of a building are appealed to the Board of Building Appeals.

    Who May File An Appeal?

    Persons adversely affected by the following:

    • A final, appealable decision, order or adjudication issued by the Director pursuant to Sections 1101-80.2 or 1101-80.3;
    • A final, appealable decision, order or adjudication issued by the Community Reinvestment Area Housing Officer;
    • A final, appealable decision, order or adjudication pursuant to the enforcement of the property maintenance provisions of the Cincinnati Building Code, unless the subject matter of the appeal falls within the jurisdiction of another City board of appeals.

    When Must An Appeal Be Filed?

    All appeals will be filed within thirty (30) days from the issuance of the notice of violation, decision, or order appealed from. All appeal application transactions must be completed by 4:00 p.m. No exceptions.

    How Do I File An Appeal? 

    Submit an application, necessary documentation, and the applicable fee. All applications must be complete and submitted with the following items:

    1. Application. 
    2. A copy of the written ruling or written order appealed.
    3. A supporting statement or argument to be offered for the Board’s consideration.
    4. One hard copy and a digital copy of all materials (cd, flash drive, etc..)
    5. A non-refundable filing fee, check made payable to the City of Cincinnati.

    Hearing Information

    Board of Housing Appeals regular monthly meetings are tentatively scheduled on the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00am  in the Public Hearing Room, II Centennial Plaza, 5th Floor, 805 Central Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.
