Green Plan Draws Conference To City

Cincinnati To Host 2nd Annual Zero Waste National Business Conference

City's Green Cincinnati Plan Draws Group To Cincinnati

Cincinnati will host the second annual Zero Waste National Business Conference from May 8-9, 2013, in big part thanks to the City's development of the Green Cincinnati Plan.

The U.S. Zero Waste Business Council cited the Green Cincinnati Plan, a detailed roadmap for addressing global climate change and encouraging sustainability, as key to their choice to bring the conference to Downtown Cincinnati this year.

The conference, to be held at The Westin Cincinnati Hotel, will focus on helping businesses profitably find a way to meet customer demands for a green company with the business demands of finding ways of operating leaner in a competitive economy.

Keynote topics include:

  • How Honda Added to the Bottom Line By Achieving Zero Waste – Robert Bottom (Honda of America Manufacturing)
  • Procter & Gamble: Zero Waste in a World of Consumer Products – Scott Burns (Procter & Gamble)
  • Getting 100,000 Buckeye Fans to Go Zero Waste, One Game at a Time – Corey J. Hawkey (Ohio State University)
  • Finding Zero Waste in Wild Places, the Cincinnati Zoo – Sofia "Fia" Cifuentes (Cincinnati Zoo)
  • Whole Foods, the First Certified Zero Waste Business – Tom Wright (Whole Foods Markets)

Last year’s conference sold out and attracted over 200 attendees from across North America including attendees from Hawaii and Canada.

About The Green Cincinnati Plan

Approved in 2008, the Green Cincinnati Plan is a roadmap for how Cincinnati can become a national leader in addressing global climate change -- and make Cincinnati a healthier place to live. It identifies more than 80 specific recommendations for how to reduce contributions to global climate change. For more information, please visit OES's homepage.

About US Zero Waste Business Council

The U.S. Zero Waste Business Council (USZWBC) hosts the only national conference focused solely on Zero Waste Business success stories, challenges, needs and opportunities.

USZWBC will highlight the third party certification system it’s developing for businesses that meet the ZWIA Zero Waste Business Principles.  This will be the preeminent program for rating how well businesses perform in minimizing their discarding of non-hazardous solid wastes and maximizing their efficiency in the use of resources. This is the missing link in green certification programs that will address how non-hazardous solid wastes are handled.

USZWBC will provide the highest quality educational program at this Conference on Zero Waste business operations, economics and policies for professionals from all business sectors. The Conference will help professionals gain practical knowledge, explore new business opportunities, and learn how to create healthier, more productive and more efficient businesses. The Conference will also provide educational resources and tools for businesses to use immediately after they leave the Conference to get started, or complete, their efforts to pursue Zero Waste.
