The City of Cincinnati works to improve conditions for bicycling commuting. 63 miles of bike/hike trails are planned. 55 miles of streets are designated bike routes, with 24 miles already signed. Over 200 bicycle racks are in place at stores, schools, restaurants, and swimming pools. Stormwater inlets are being upgraded every day and 231 miles of streets have the bicycle friendly design. Six sets of bicycle lanes have been installed over the past few years, to give bicyclists a little more elbow room.
Bicycle Advocacy
The improvements are partly the result of a citizens’ committee, Bike/PAC. They meet the second Tuesday of each month at Arnold's 216 East 8th Street (2nd floor) and have helped the City apply for funding, prioritize the work and promote bicycling. Contact Larry Bloomfield, Chair, at (513) 542-4726

Maps The 1998 Cincinnati Bike Route Guide is a valuable street map, with the major

destinations, bicycle parking and memorable hills marked. Recommended Routes were developed by bicycle commuters. The map is distributed by the
OKI Regional Council of Governments, along with seven regional County maps. (513) 621-6300 The downtown bike rack map has been updated (May 2007).

Bike/Hike Trails
Cincinnati Recreation Commission operates two loop paths in the City. Dunham Recreation Center and Lunken Airport Playfield are available for recreational riding.
Currently, the City is working to define an alignment for the Ohio River to connect the Lunken Loop to Downtown Cincinnati. Through collaboration with all the shareholders, a feasible alignment will be identified to provide this connectivity. Additional information will be posted on this website.

Bikes on Buses
If the hills are too much for you, Metro and TANK can give you a lift. Metro and TANK installed bike racks on the front of all of its buses. Contact Metro for more details - (513) 621-4455 or
