Inlet Maintenance

The Department of Public Services maintains over 30,000 inlets in the public right-of-way. These inlets are cleaned every 2 years.  When a problem is found an inspection crew is sent. This inspection crew determines the amount of damage and the amount of repairs needed. Once we have approval from MSD, a crew is sent to make the repairs. Any inlet that has been severely damaged or is outdated will be rebuilt and converted to a combination inlet. A combination inlet has a standard bicycle grate and an open front at the curb to allow any leaves or debris to flow in and not block the flow of water.

If you see a damaged or broken inlet, please call 591-6000 or submit an on-line Service Request.
