Fifty-eight members of the Cincinnati Police Department’s 102nd Recruit Class began their training Monday June 23 at the Police Academy, 800 Evans Street. Police Chief Thomas H. Streicher, Jr. welcomed the newest members of the department in a brief morning assembly, and then they got down to business with orientation and class work.
Of the 58 recruits in the class, 56 are training to become Cincinnati police officers. Two are Cincinnati Fire Department arson investigators. The members of the class range in age from 21 to 56. Twenty-six of them have earned bachelor’s degrees; four have earned associate degrees; and one has a master’s degree. Twelve of the recruits have served in the armed forces, and twelve of them have prior law enforcement experience.
The class will spend the next 26 weeks working on intensive classroom, practical and physical training that covers all aspects of modern law enforcement. Graduation day is December 19.
