Cincy Air Watch
How to use this dashboard:
1. Explore current air quality in Cincinnati:
- On the main page, you will see a map showing the current air quality in different neighborhoods of Cincinnati.
- Hover over a monitor on the map to see more information about the air quality at that location, including the AQI value and the concentration of different pollutants.
- You can filter the map by neighborhood or by monitor to focus on the areas that are most important to you.
- To learn more about PM2.5 and other air pollutants, click on the links to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the title ribbon.
2. Explore historical air quality data:
- On the second page of the dashboard, you can explore historical air quality data for Cincinnati.
- You can filter the data by date range or AQI category to focus on the time periods or air quality levels that are most important to you.
3. Learn more about AQI:
- On the Definitions page, you will find a more detailed table of AQI values and their corresponding levels of concern.

Air quality affects health in multiple ways. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies air pollution as one of the greatest environmental risks to human health. Current research indicates that poor air quality can result in adverse health effects, particularly cardiovascular and respiratory diseases including asthma. WHO calculates that the effects of air pollutions are associated with an average of 6.7 million premature deaths annually. [1, 2]
In Cincinnati, particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and ozone are the largest contributors to poor air quality and air quality alerts.
The project uses PurpleAir Classic and Flex air quality monitors. These were selected based on the cost effective price point, accuracy and precision, ease of install, existing network use by citizen scientists, connectivity to Wi-Fi, transparency of data, lifespan, and ability to measure PM2.5 concentrations.
Monitors are currently installed at the following locations through the Cincy Air Watch project:
