Two Alarm Structure Fire at 1808 Republic St.- Over the Rhine

District Fire Chief Gregory A. Potter reported on a Two-Alarm structure fire that occurred in the Over the Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati in the evening of April 28, 2014.  At 7:41 PM the Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center received a report of smoke coming from a building at Findlay St. and Vine St.

Initial arriving Fire Companies reported a working fire on the first floor of a five story vacant multi-family at 1808 Republic St.  The fire started between the two buildings at 1808 Republic St. and 1809 Vine St. and extended into the first floor of both buildings.  Due to the size of both buildings and the difficulty in gaining access to them, and Second-Alarm was requested.  An aggressive interior attack was initiated and the fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.  

Damage is estimated at $5,000 which includes $3000 to the building at 1808 Republic St. and $2000 to the building at 1809 Vine St. .  There were no reported injuries.  There were 50 firefighters that responded to this incident.  Cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cincinnati Fire Department Investigations Unit.  The Cincinnati Building Department also responded to the scene.   Fire Companies were on the scene for approximately 2 hours.
