District Chief Raffel Prophett reported on a One-Alarm structure fire that occurred in the community of the West End in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 20, 2013 at approximately 8:00am. The Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center received a call stating there was smoke coming from a vacant building at the above address.
First arriving units reported moderate smoke presenting from the vacant three story residential building. Fire crews conducted an aggressive interior attack, encountering moderate fire, yet were able to knock down the fire in 15 minutes. Fire crews remained on the scene for an additional 45 minutes to check for fire extension and to assist the Fire Investigator. Thirty firefighters responded to the one alarm fire.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters and the damaged is estimated at $1000. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit. Per protocol, the Building Department also responded to secure the vacant building.
