Councilmember Yvette Simpson is serving her first term on Cincinnati City Council. She is Vice Chair of both the Public Safety and Livable Communities Committees, and also serves on the Budget and Finance, Strategic Growth, and Rules and Government Operations Committees, and the Major Transportation and Infrastructure Projects Sub-Committee. On Council, Simpson will focus on creating jobs by making Cincinnati a more business-friendly city, work to preserve and improve our 52 unique neighborhoods, and improve the quality of life for all Cincinnatians.
Yvette Simpson grew up in Lincoln Heights, and after graduating from Princeton High School attended Miami University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law. After several years in private practice, Simpson returned to Miami University to develop and direct the university's first Pre-Law Program. Now in its fifth year, the program is one of the most comprehensive pre-law programs in the country.
Simpson has held leadership positions with many community organizations throughout Cincinnati. She formerly served on the board of directors of the YWCA and the Urban League, and currently serves on the board of MOSAIC Culture and the Curriculum Committee of the Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) program. She is also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Cincinnati Alumnae Chapter and the Cincinnati Chapter of the Links, Inc. Simpson formerly served on the Community Advisory Council for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. In 2005, she was recognized as one of the Business Courier's Forty under 40 and a YWCA Rising Star.
Simpson lives in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati.
