City Announces 2012 Neighborhood Business District Funding List

$1.7 Million Projected Budget Would Be Allocated Across 15 Projects

The Department of Community Development and Cincinnati Neighborhood Business Districts United are endorsing 15 proposals for Neighborhood Business District Improvement Program funding awards in 2012.

Awarded annually, funds from the Neighborhood Business District Improvement Program can be used for a variety of capital improvements and other uses to promote economic development in officially recognized neighborhoods business districts.

The projects are implemented in partnerships between City staff and community volunteers.

At the end of a lengthy peer review process that has been in use since the 1990s, member communities of Cincinnati Neighborhood Business Districts United submitted rankings of their fellow members’ proposals.

In a fiercely competitive funding round, Community Development received 26 applications requesting a total of $3.6 million. Community Development is anticipating having a total of roughly $1.7 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funds and Capital Investment Program funds available in 2012, which would allow the top 15 applications to be funded.

Cincinnati City Council will make the final decisions when it sets the Consolidated Plan and Capital Investment Program budgets for the 2012 fiscal year.
