Park Description

Fleischmann Gardens, at Washington and Forest Avenues in Avondale, was originally the site of the home of the late Charles Fleischmann, founder of the Fleischmann Yeast Company. The park was given to the city in 1925 by his heirs. In 1976, an additional strip of land adjoining the park was purchased from the Salvation Army thereby bringing the acreage to 4.4.

At the entrance to the park you are confronted by huge ornamental iron gates which are topped with an old-fashioned gas light fixture. Once inside, you will find various stone slab paths. One path is edged on both sides by large holly trees. If you follow this path straight back you come to some steps which lead down to an evergreen terraced maze. A large urn surrounded by rose bushes is at the base of these steps.

This small park is beautifully landscaped and the size of the trees with their massive trunks impresses visitors.

Another path leads to the play area. Here you can watch children play as you sit in a large oval area which is completely encircled by benches.
