Winter Operations: Jan. 24, 2013
The National Weather Service forecast is:
- Tonight: Partly cloudy in the evening...then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows 15 to 20. East winds around 5 mph.
- Friday: Snow. Snow accumulation 1 to 2 inches. Highs in the lower 30s. Southeast winds around 5 mph...becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of snow 100 percent.
City crews have been pre-treating primary streets today ahead of the forecasted Friday snow event. Efforts will continue this evening with a focus on residential streets.
Crews will be monitoring forecasts and road conditions throughout the night and are prepared for the wintery weather when it begins.
Drivers will want to watch for and yield to large salt trucks that are working to keep our roadways safe.
Drivers should be alert for any isolated slick spots that may form as a result of wet pavement and freezing temps.
As with any potential winter weather event, travel with an emergency kit packed with items such as warm clothing, a blanket, an ice scraper, a cell phone, bottled water, energy snacks, and a shovel.
