Winter Operations: Feb. 1, 2013
The National Weather Service forecast is:
- Tonight: Partly cloudy this evening...then mostly cloudy with a chance of snow after midnight. Lows 5 to 10 above. Temperatures rising to around 15 after midnight. Southwest winds around 5 mph. Chance of snow 50 percent.
- Saturday: Snow. Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. Highs in the lower 30s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 100 percent.
City crews continued 12-hour shifts today treating area roadways. At this time, most primary roads have responded well to treatment.
Crews are making steady progress on residential streets but this is an ongoing effort and will continue this evening.
Twelve-hour shifts will continue tonight and into tomorrow as dropping overnight temperatures and additional snowfall will likely result in worsening driving conditions.
City crews are prepared to treating City streets and monitoring road conditions throughout the weekend to minimize hazardous driving conditions.
Drivers will want to watch for and yield to large salt trucks that are working to keep our roadways safe.
As with any winter weather event, travel with an emergency kit packed with items such as warm clothing, a blanket, an ice scraper, a cell phone, bottled water, energy snacks, and a shovel.
