"REI is honored to partner with Cincinnati Parks to support their important efforts to take care of local parks and green spaces through their engaging volunteer programs," said Darren Wilner, REI Cincinnati store manager.
"Cincinnati Parks and the Cincinnati Parks Foundation are always looking for new and innovative ways to partner with businesses in our community. This new relationship between Cincinnati Parks and REI is an excellent way to promote the ideals that are important both organizations in a way that will truly benefit the public," said Willie F. About Cincinnati Parks Volunteer Programs
The Cincinnati Park Board's Volunteer Programs are vital to efficient operations of our City's 5,000-acre park system. The mission of the program is to increase community engagement with our parks and greenspaces, while reducing costs to manage the park system. In 2011:
- 3,000 volunteers completed 65,000 hours of service
- $1.2 million was offset in Cincinnati Parks' operating budget due thanks volunteer work
- Cincinnati Parks partnered with corporations, schools, and other civic groups throughout the region
The Cincinnati Parks Volunteer Programs are successful due to the focus on developing and maintaining relationships; offering appealing and essential volunteer projects; and active oversight of volunteer projects.
Many volunteers are involved with Cincinnati Parks throughout the year and report the enjoyment of their experience as the reason for coming back year after year. It is imperative that Cincinnati Parks continue to implement large-scale volunteer initiatives such as the Mayor's Corporate Challenge and Green Up Days, and we look forward to doing so with the generous support of REI.
