The City of Cincinnati is seeking to fill a Bricklayer position. The position requires extensive knowledge and experience in the masonry restoration aspect of the occupation. The candidate must be educated to perform skilled masonry work in the restoration, preservation, alteration, maintenance, repair, and construction of masonry structures and monuments; including granite, marble, stone, tile, and plaster. The candidate must be able to assess masonry condition, draw conclusions as to cause of damage and recommend a course of action, to restore masonry to its original condition. This masonry craftsman must have knowledge of period masonry materials, mortar recipes, and construction methods. Must be able to work at heights from scaffolding or high lift. Performs other assignments as required. Applicant must be a self-starter, work well in a team environment, and be able to demonstrate the following:
- Restoration, preservation, maintenance, construction and repair of all masonry structures, such as buildings, walls, monuments.
- Establishes the work schedule for providing services on a self-directed basis; supervises lower-level employees as appropriate for specific projects.
- Inspects the work of masonry contractors on restoration and construction projects.
- Trains lower-level employees in proper safety measures and in use of tools.
- Reads and follows construction specifications, drawing and prints, including standard drawings.
- Enters information into computer program for tracking time and requisitioning materials.
- Applies safety principles and practices as stipulated in department policies and procedures and the Employee Safety Instruction Manual (Green Book); identifies unsafe practices and conditions and brings such matters to the attention of the supervisor.
- Assists those contacted in the course of duty in an effective, efficient, and professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must have four years experience as a bricklayer or have completed an apprenticeship program. Experience in refractory work, including ability to lay fireclay brick, to apply fireclay plastic and to mold castables is desirable. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Ohio driver's license is required for some positions. May be required to work irregular hours and be on-call. All required experience must have occurred within the last (5) five years. You are required to show your valid driver's license to the Human Resources Department staff NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS. Must be a Hamilton County resident at the time of appointment.
