Office of Administrative Boards & Zoning Hearing Examiner

The Administrative Boards are established for the purpose of hearing appeals from certain decisions and orders of the City's administrative officials. The Law Department provides all necessary staffing to the boards for performance of administrative and procedural functions, including receipt and processing of applications and related materials, handling of all board correspondence, issuance of notices, compilation of data and information necessary for consideration of cases, serving as administrative and legal staff to the boards at their meetings, preparation of decisions, orders, and resolutions adopted by the boards, and other appropriate actions within the jurisdiction of the boards.

The Zoning Hearing Examiner conducts public hearings and decides applications for variances, use variances, conditional uses, special exceptions, Hillside Overlay District development permissions, expansions or substitutions of nonconforming uses, and reviews of phased developments in the DD zoning district.
